As next year’s Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 and the European Choir Games producers from Riga, we support “One Day One Choir” movement. Tonight, on the 21st of September, on the International Peace Day, together with the mixed choir “Aura” we will sing “Sun, Thunder, Daugava” a song written by a Latvian composer Martins Brauns.
Latvians are a singing nation.
Choir singing has deep roots and is an old tradition in Latvia. Despite the fact that only 2 million people reside in Latvia, we have more than 1,100 active adult and youth choirs. Latvia’s history and the Singing Revolution, which 25 years ago helped us gain back our independence, is a symbolic and a beautiful notion that “song” has enormous strength to bring people together for an honorable goal and bring about great change.
We believe that singing together unifies nations and that we stand for peace around the world.
